Break-In Procedures for Stage 3 Builds.

Please take the following steps for your transmission.

  1. When you receive your transmission shift it through each gear before installing.
  2. When you install your transmission NEVER let the transmission hang on the input shaft. Doing so will bend the input shaft which will lead to wear and tear on the bearings and gears.
  3. If you ordered a Stage 3 transmission you should ONLY use Motul Competition Gear 75W-140 for break in.
  4. When filling your transmission, make sure the fill tube is all the way inside the transmission. We have had many cases of people thinking their transmission was full when the hose was just at the entrance of the fill plug and fluid started dripping out. If you have a transmission cooler, the transmission should be filled while the transmission cooler is running.
  5. Check your clutch pedal engagement. The clutch should not engage until the pedal has traveled 40% of the distance from the floor. If the clutch is not properly adjusted it can create wear and tear inside the transmission, especially during the break-in process.
  6. For break-in, we recommend driving 500-1000 miles at street speeds. We understand that some cars are dedicated track cars. Break in can also be done on a dyno, or by doing multiple track sessions at low load. Put as many miles on it as you can before racing it.
  7. Once the break in period is complete, change the oil. If you have a naturally aspirated NA, NB, or NC transmission you can continue to use the Motul or switch to Motorcraft XT-M5-QS. If you have a boosted NA, NB, or NC, we recommend using the Motul but you can use Motorcraft. If you have an ND, you should only use the recommended Motul fluid and change it every 20 track hours.
